He was accompanied by his brother Lakshman and wife Sita. Sita was abducted by the demon, Ravana. Sita was kept as a hostage in his kingdom until Lord Rama defeated him and brought her back. As Lord Rama, Lakshman and Sita returned to Ayodhya, the people were thrilled and excited thats why diwali is celebrated.

The entire town was illuminated with diyas. Sweets were distributed and people made merry. This is how we continue to celebrate this day even today.

The Harvest Festival - In some regions of the country, Diwali is considered to be a harvest festival. India is basically an agricultural economy this is the time for celebration. Grand celebration is held at this time. The festival holds special importance for the farmers.

The Legend of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi - There is a belief that King Bali had imprisoned Goddess Lakshmi. It was on this day that Lord Vishnu disguised himself and set the Goddess free from the evil king. The day thus calls for a celebration. In many states of the country, people celebrate Diwali to rejoice the return of Goddess Lakshmi.

The Birth of Goddess Lakshmi - There is a belief that Goddess Lakshmi was born on the new moon of the Kartik month. So, in certain parts, Diwali is celebrated to rejoice the birth of Goddess Lakshmi who is worshipped during the evening hours on this day. Goddess Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity and the Hindus hold high regard for her.

The puja of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha is followed in every Hindu household on the day of Diwali.

People are believed to have lit oil lamps along the way to light their way into darkness. In southern India, it is considered a victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Naraka. So people celebrate this day with new clothes, crackers, etc.

In sikhs religion Diwali is important because it celebrates the release of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind, and 52 other princes with him, in 1619.

What do people do Diwali?

Lets know What do people do Diwali ? Everone celebrate Dhanteras on the first day, Naraka Chaturdashi on the second day, Diwali on the third day, Diwali Padva on the fourth day and Bhai Dooj on the fifth day of the festival.

Dhanteras :  the Hindus consider it appropriate to buy gold or silver or tools. It is said that some form of precious metal is a sign of good luck. Lakshmi Puja is worshiped in the evening when tiny Diyas are lit to chase away evil spirits.

Narak Chaturdashi: Hindu literature tells that the demon Narakasura was killed on this day by Lord Krishna, Satyabhama and the goddess Kali. The day is celebrated by the rites and religious holidays of the early morning followed. Diwali is celebrated as the return of Lord Rama with his wife and younger brother back to Ayodhya.

Diwali Padva: it is celebrated in honor of the king's notional return Bali on the ground.

Bhai Dooj: The celebrations of this day are similar to those of Raksha Bandhan. On this day, the sisters receive gifts from the brothers.

How diwali is celebrated ? Hindus light their homes and shops, to welcome the goddess Lakshmi, to give them good luck for the coming year. They offer prayers to flood wealth and good luck on them. People start new activities and pray for a successful year. The lamps are lit to help Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, make her way into people's homes. Problem of pollution 

There is rarely an increase in air pollution with the celebration. This is due to the bursting of various types of firecrackers during this festival. They are dangerous because they release toxic pollutants such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and others that mix with the air and cause various deadly diseases. It affects people of all ages. Not only human beings, but also affects the life of animals, birds and other living things.

However, nowadays, the government is working hard to reduce it. Schools and various organizations are trying to educate people at the festival without pollution. The media also support it. Television and radio programs are broadcasted, asking citizens to stop the noise and stay safe. The Supreme Court has banned the cracking of crackers that make sounds. Therefore, we must practice to celebrate free pollution from Diwali each year and save the environment.

In all, Diwali is a festival where people hold out their hard feelings, try to forget their problems and fully enjoy this day. This festival enriches friendship and the feeling of brotherhood.
